Founder's Story

Mrs. Ifeoma Caroline Okafor (née Ezeagbo) was born in 1933 into a humble home where discipline, character, and education were held in the highest regard. From her early years, she was immersed in a learning environment shaped by British educators and Christian missionaries, an experience that laid a solid academic and moral foundation and ignited a lifelong passion for teaching.

After completing her education, and following her relocation to Enugu, Mrs. Okafor made a decision that would quietly but profoundly shape generations to come. With little more than conviction and a deep belief in the power of education, she opened a modest daycare in her own compound. Neighbours entrusted their children to her care, confident in her training, her values, and her dedication to excellence.

What began as a small daycare soon grew into a well-respected kindergarten and later a full nursery school. Even in its early years, the school earned a strong reputation for quality teaching, discipline, and moral instruction. Parents spoke highly of the children’s confidence, intelligence, and character qualities that quickly distinguished the school within the community.

C.E.O/ Founder

At a time when formal teacher training institutions were not widely accessible, Mrs. Okafor placed exceptional emphasis on teacher quality. She ensured that her teachers were thoroughly trained, mentored, and held to high professional standards. To her, education was not merely about academics, but about shaping minds, character, and purpose.

As enrolment steadily increased from dozens to over a hundred pupils, the school outgrew its original location and moved from her family compound to a rented facility. With growth came innovation. In addition to the nursery school, Mrs. Okafor pioneered a highly successful evening lesson programme on Nzimiro Street, New Haven, Enugu. Working alongside seasoned educators and professionals, she established extra-mural classes that prepared primary school pupils for the Common Entrance Examination. The programme became widely known and respected, producing outstanding results and academic confidence in its students.

Over time, evening lessons expanded to include secondary-level support. After many productive years, Mrs. Okafor made the strategic decision to refocus fully on strengthening the core school, a choice that ensured long-term stability and excellence.

About a decade ago, the primary school section was formally introduced, building on the strong nursery foundation. A few years later, the secondary school section followed, completing the vision of a full, values-driven educational institution. In 2025, the secondary school proudly graduated its pioneer set, all of whom gained admission into respected universities, recording excellent results in their WAEC and JAMB examinations. Today, Carol’s International School stands as a testament to her foresight, resilience, and unwavering commitment to holistic education.
Beyond academics, the school is known for instilling strong moral values, integrity, discipline, respect, and excellence. Many alumni have gone on to thrive across Nigeria and internationally, including in the United Kingdom and Canada. They excel in government, business, and professional fields, carrying forward the principles they first learned within these walls.

Now at 93 years old, Mrs. Okafor remains a living legacy. Strong, articulate, and intellectually sharp, she continues to inspire all who meet her. Known in her earlier years for personally teaching Mathematics and English Language, her command of language and clarity of thought remain remarkable even today.

Carol’s International School exists because one woman believed that education when done with excellence, discipline, and heart can transform lives. Her story is not only our history; it is the foundation upon which our future is built.
